i finally quit 🎉
my thoughts on committing to full-time freelancing
I published a post here back in March that was titled, “some things i’m struggling with as a freelancer right now”. The number one struggle I was having at the time was committing to being a full-time freelancer.
I wrote:
“It may come as a shock, but I am not a full-time freelancer – although the majority of my income comes from freelancing. Since I began freelancing, I’ve also worked at various gyms and boutique fitness studios as a group exercise instructor.
Recently, I’ve been feeling the call to quit coaching group fitness and commit to full-time freelancing. But, I’m terrified. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you, dear reader, that living is expensive – and in the States, the economy is especially shitty right now.
The truth is, some months are slow and some are busy as a freelancer. Coaching gives me a secure source of income every 2 weeks to rely on. I don’t want to be in a position of financial insecurity during an economic downturn. On the flipside, it’s difficult to progress my freelancing career very much.”
Well, I finally decided to follow my gut. I quit my fitness coaching job last week to commit to full-time freelancing.
Since doing it, a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I feel relieved. I feel excited to finally be able to progress my career in a way I’ve been dreaming of. And I’m proud that I followed my intuition to make the leap.
In my 5+ years of freelancing, I’ve always had a coaching job on the side – except during COVID shutdowns and some months when rehabbing a knee injury. It feels freeing – and scary – to know that my time is totally mine now.
I don’t have classes to cover, I can travel now if I want.
I also have to be careful and continue pitching myself for gigs, since I’m losing a reliable source of income.
It’s a paradox, isn’t it? But, everything in life comes with pros and cons.
You can’t always be overthinking the outcome of every potential decision at hand. Sometimes, you just have to make the move that feels best at the time and trust that good things will happen as long as you have good intentions at heart.
Cheers to full-time freelancing! May we thrive, survive, and prosper.

Congrats
