5 Insanely Practical Tips for Building a TikTok Following
These tips got me from 0 to 12k+ followers in just six months
Are you struggling to grow on TikTok?
…would you be mad if I told you that you’re probably overthinking it?
I joined TikTok exactly a year ago, fairly unsure of the type of content I was going to share. Not shockingly at all, I ended up in the freelancing/writing/social media marketing niches.
As I began to share content, I built a following, increased my income, and connected with others in the same space. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised with the results.
And it wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. Here are the five biggest tips I’ve followed to grow my TikTok following:
1. Share what you know
Don’t reinvent the wheel. I always hear people say they want to be content creators, but they don’t know what to share. We all have some knowledge to share!
As you’re gaining your footing on TikTok, no one is really going to know who you are. So, it’s important to provide value.
Are you going through the college sports recruiting process? Did you make $5,000 in affiliate income last month? Do your friends always tell you how organized and clean your house is? Share your tips and tricks!
2. Put less pressure on yourself
Not every TikTok has to be a production-level event. That’s the beauty of it!
With Instagram and other social platforms, it tends to be a lot about aesthetics and appearances. But with TikTok? People keep it real.
I’ve seen people crying on camera, recording in their cars, and ranting while making a coffee. Moral of the story? Put less pressure on yourself to appear some type of way or fit an aesthetic theme.
3. Follow the trends
Following the trends on TikTok is the easiest way to ensure that you’re never low on content. All you have to do is twist it and apply it to your niche.
My best advice is when you see a TikTok with a trending sound that sparks an idea in your head, share it via text message with yourself. Write down the idea in the text message.
Next time you’re making a TikTok, you can pull up the sound and use it with the idea you had.
4. Utilize video replies for more content
Utilizing video replies is another simple way to get more content flowing. It shows your audience that you’re paying attention and willing to help them out.
Remember in school when your teacher would give you an assignment and they’d say, “Any questions? If you think of it, I’m sure someone else in the room has the same question.”
Similar concept with TikTok.
5. Be yourself!
I know, I know — the ultimate cliche. But it’s true.
Replicating somebody else isn’t going to get you anywhere on TikTok. We’ve seen ’em all. Be original and be a trailblazer.
Your authentic personality will attract your ideal audience. Trust that.
